How does a telehealth session look like for a young child?

Many parents are concerned that their young child will not sit and look at the computer for more than 5 minutes or at all. Here is a simple answer: the child does not have to look at the computer during the session. Usually the day before the session, we email all the materials and the plan for the session. Parents are asked to print the materials and prepare the required toys/items. We meet online and we guide/teach the parents what to do and say in order to achieve therapeutic goals. Children think that they simply play with their parents, but we know that we stimulate their cognitive and language functions.

How does a telehealth session look like for an adult?

Often times the patient will require a presence of the caregiver during the session who will help with some formalities, such as preparing materials for the session, providing/switching certain materials, opening/closing websites, etc. Usually the day before the session, I email all the materials and the plan for the session. We meet online and work together.

Benefits of the telehealth session?

Parents/caregivers play a crucial role in a child's progress. Thus, by being actively present during the session, parents/caregivers learn how to provide additional stimulation/practice by themselves, which leads to faster progress.
